Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC)

This type of motorcycle engine configuration has two camshafts – one actuates the intake valves and one the exhaust valves. There are no pushrods or rocker arms on a DOHC engine – the cams are in direct contact with valve tappets to operate the valves directly through a shorter path of actuating drive. Less weight and fewer components result in an increase in performance and rpm capabilities.
