Lane Splitting
October 6, 2007
Passing between lanes of stopped or slower-moving vehicles on a motorcycle. Lane splitting is not permitted in most of the U.S. although legal in California at the time of this publishing, it is allowed in many other countries and may provide a safety benefit and reduce traffic congestion. Also called “lane sharing.”
For your health and well-being it is advisable NOT to split lanes in areas where it is illegal. Aside from getting a ticket, motorists are not expecting to see a motorcycle in their lane and may intentionally or unintentionally run you down.
