Starter System

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Troubleshooting

If the electric starter does not crank the engine perform the following checks. You will need a digital multimeter for these tests.

Starter Relay

Remove the seat. See the Seat topic for more information.

Remove the left side number plate. See the Side Covers topic for more information.

Make sure the transmission is in neutral and pull in the clutch lever.

Position your self so you can listen to the starter relay and hit the engine start button. The starter relay should emit clicks when the button is pressed. If you do not here the clicks inspect the relay.

Free the starter relay from the rear fender.

Disconnect the red 4-pin connector from the relay.

Remove the fuse and inspect its condition.
