SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Let the engine warm up for three minutes and then shut it off and wait for three minutes.

With the motorcycle upright check the engine oil level in the oil sight glass. The level should be between the high and low marks.

The CRF450X models have a dipstick instead of a sight glass. Remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Insert the dipstick, but do not thread it in. The oil level should be at or slightly below the upper mark.

Start and run the engine for several minutes, this will heat the engine and allow the oil to drain out faster and more completely.

NOTE: Hot engine oil can burn you, take precautions not to touch the oil when draining.
