Coolant Removal

SAFETY FIRST: Antifreeze is highly toxic and can kill pets and animals if drank. Do not leave coolant where animals can get to it.

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Coolant Draining

Remove the three bolts that secure the skid pan in place using a 10 mm socket.

Place a drain pan under the water pump and remove the drain bolt and its washer using an 8 mm wrench.

Remove the radiator cap, this will help drain the coolant faster.

Coolant Refilling

Coolant type: Recommended for aluminum engines
Mix ratio: 50 : 50 with distilled water
Coolant capacity: 1.3 liters (1.4 US qt)

Once the coolant is removed, you will need to reinstall the drain plug and its washer. Refill the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol based anti-freeze that is recommended for aluminum engines and distilled water. Do not use tap water as it contains minerals that can damage the cooling system.

Coolant drain plug torque: 7.8 N-m or 69 in-lb

When filling the radiator with coolant, pour it slowly so air in the radiator and engine can escape.

Fill the radiator up to the bottom of the filler neck with coolant. Install the radiator cap and run the motorcycle for about 30 seconds with the cap on. Remove the cap and refill the radiator to the top.

Fill the overflow tank to the full mark. Restart the motorcycle and run it until it reaches operating temperature. Check the coolant level in the overflow tank, add coolant as necessary.

Check the cooling system for leaks.
