SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.
Remove the camshafts. See the Valve Train Removal topic for more information.
Use a pick or small screwdriver to remove the valve shim from the tappet.
Shims will usually have their size stamped on them, if they don’t or the shim looks worn measure the shim with a micrometer to reassure its size.
To change the valve clearance(s), use your recorded valve clearance measurement(s) and the shim chart to bring the valve clearance(s) back into specification.
