Front Wheel Removal

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Removal

Raise the front wheel of the motorcycle just off the ground with a suitable jack. Secure the vehicle so that it can not fall.

Remove the cotter pin from the front axle nut.

Remove the axle nut using a 22 mm wrench while holding the axle with a 17 mm wrench.

Remove the axle from the front wheel.

Remove the speedometer gear assembly.

Remove the axle spacer.

Check the wheel bearings by inserting your finger and rotating the bearings. If the bearings don’t turn freely or makes a grinding noise, replace them.

Installation

Grease the inner speedometer gear assembly before re-installing it into the wheel, making sure to align the slots in the gear assembly with the tabs in the front wheel.

Place the axle spacer into position in the front wheel.

Slide the front wheel into position, making sure the front brake disc fits in between the front brake pads. Drive the front axle in place.

Tighten the front axle nut to its proper torque specification and replace the cotter pin with a new one.

front axle nut torque: 78 N-m or 58 ft-lb
