Airbox

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Airbox Removal

Remove the side covers. See the Side Cover Removal topic for more information.

Remove the seat. See the Seat Removal topic for more information.

Remove the fuel tank. See the Fuel Tank Removal topic for more information.

Remove the battery. See the Battery topic for more information.

Remove the muffler. See the Exhaust Removal topic for more information.

Remove the two 6 mm Allen bolts that secure the right passenger footpeg bracket to the frame using a 6 mm Allen wrench. Also remove the two Allen bolts holding the rear master cylinder to the frame using a 6 mm Allen wrench.

Remove the bolt that secures the wire harness in place using a 10 mm wrench. Unplug the regulator/rectifier coupler.

Unplug the turn signal coupler.

Loosen the Phillips head screw that secures the air duct boot to the back of the carburetor using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver.

Remove the two upper Allen bolts that secure the sub frame to the main frame using a 6 mm Allen wrench. Loosen the two lower bolts and nuts that secure the lower sub frame to the main frame using two 12 mm wrenches.

Let the rear sub frame rest against the rear wheel.

Remove the airbox.

Installation

Install the airbox and sub frame in the reverse order of installation. Tighten the bolts to specification as indicated.

Sub frame mounting bolts: 25 N-m or 18.0 ft-lb
