Rear Brake Disc Inspection


Inspection

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Raise the rear wheel of the motorcycle just off the ground with a suitable jack. Secure the vehicle so that it can not fall. 

Visually inspect the brake disc for cracks or excessive wear. 

Check the thickness of the disc using a micrometer. Compare your measurement with specification.

Using a magnetic stand and a dial gauge, measure the runout of the rear disc while rotating the rear wheel slowly. Compare your reading with specification.If either of these measurements are not within specification replace the disc.

Removal

 

Remove the rear wheel. See the Rear Wheel Removal topic for more information.

 

Remove the six 6 mm Allen bolts using a 6 mm Allen wrench and remove the rear brake rotor.

 

Install the new disc and apply a thread locking agent such as blue Loctite to the brake disc bolts.

 

Torque the bolts to their proper specification.

rear brake disc bolt torque: 23 N-m or 16.5 ft-lb
