SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.
Removal
Remove the rear wheel. See the Rear Wheel Removal topic for more information.

Remove the Uni-Trak tie rods using a 14 mm wrench to hold the two bolts and a 17 mm wrench to loosen the nuts. Remove the lower shock absorber mounting bolt using the same tools.


Remove the bolt holding the rocker arm to the frame using a 14 mm wrench to hold the bolt and a 17 mm wrench to loosen the nut.

Remove the swing arm pivot nut using a 22 mm wrench.


Drive out the swing arm pivot using a punch and hammer.

Remove the swing arm from the frame.
Inspection

Remove the dust seals and bushings and clean them using aerosol brake cleaner and a lint free cloth. Inspect the bushings for wear or other damage.

Clean all of the Uni-Trak components using aerosol brake cleaner and a lint free cloth.

Inspect all of the swing arm and rocker arm bearings by turning them with your finger. If they feel rough or loose, replace them.

Replace any of the rear suspension bearings using a bearing puller/installer tool. If one is not available, the bearings can be replaced using a socket with the same outside diameter as the OD of the bearing. Heating the aluminum around the bearing with a heat gun will make this job much easier.
Installation
Place a film of waterproof grease on all of the rear suspension bearings and pivot shafts.

Slide the swing arm into position in between the frame and the engine. Make sure the bushings and dust seals are in place.
Drive the swing arm pivot from the right side into the swing arm and through the engine cases.


Install the swing arm pivot nut and torque it to specification.

Install the bolt holding the rocker arm to the frame and torque it to specification.
rocker arm bolt torque: 98 N-m or 72 ft-lb

Reinstall the lower shock absorber mount and the two tie rods, and torque the nuts and bolts to specification.
