SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Removal

Note: 2010 and newer models do not have a recoil starter mechanism. They are fitted with a cover only.

Remove the four recoil starter cover mounting bolts with a 10 mm socket.

Remove the recoil starter and gasket from the left side of the engine.

Installation

Install the recoil starter and a new gasket onto the left side of the engine.

Apply blue Loctite (non-permanent) to the four recoil starter mounting bolts. Install the four recoil starter cover mounting bolts with an 8 mm socket. Tighten them to specification.

Recoil Starter Mounting Bolt: 5.9 N-m, 0.6 kgf-m, 52 in-lb
