Clutch

Clutch Removal

Drain the transmission oil.

Remove the oil pump.

Take out the screws holding the right hand engine cover to the crankcase. Tap the cover gently with a soft-faced hammer to remove it.

Hold the clutch with a strap wrench and remove the clutch nut. Pull the clutch assembly straight off the shaft.

Installation Notes:

If the key is damaged, replace it. The key drives the clutch because the shaft is not tapered.

If the non-return needle bearing is removed, it must be installed correctly or the kickstarter will not work. The bearing must be installed in the clutch hub so that the clutch bushing will turn inside the hub counterclockwise but not clockwise, as viewed from the outside of the engine.
