Oil Pump

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Removal

Remove the alternator flywheel and starter clutch gear. See the Alternator topic for more information.

Remove the oil pump drive chain tensioner bolt with a 14 mm wrench. Inspect the O-ring and replace it as needed.

The tensioner bolt houses a spring and pusher pin.

Remove the oil pump drive chain guide bolt with an 8 mm socket.

Remove the oil pump chain guide.

Remove the collar from the oil pump drive chain guide. Inspect the oil pump drive chain guide for excessive wear and damage. Replace the guide as needed.

Loosen the two oil pump mounting bolts with an 8 mm socket.

Remove the two bolts.

Remove the oil pump and oil drive chain.

Locate the two oil pump dowel pins. Sometimes they come out with the pump.

Remove the two oil pump dowel pins.

To disassemble the oil pump remove the circlip. The shaft and rotors can them be removed if needed.

Installation

Assemble the oil pump and install the circlip.

Install the two dowel pins into the crankcase.

Install the oil pump, drive chain and two mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to specification with an 8 mm socket.

Oil Pump Bolts: 8.8 N-m, 0.9 kgf-m, 78 in-lb

Fit the collar into the oil pump chain guide. Install the oil pump chain guide bolt and tighten it to specification with an 8 mm socket.

Chain Guide Bolts: 8.8 N-m, 0.9 kgf-m, 78 in-lb

Fit the O-ring around the oil pump drive chain tensioner bolt, and insert the spring and pusher pin into the bolt. Apply grease to the oil pump drive chain tensioner bolt O-ring.

Install the oil pump drive chain tensioner bolt and tighten it to specification with a 14 mm socket.

Oil Pump Drive Chain Tensioner Bolt: 25 N-m, 2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lb
