Removal
Always allow the exhaust system plenty of time to cool before touching it.
Remove the rear fender. See the Rear Fender topic for more information.
Remove the left side cover. See the Side Covers topic for more information.
Remove the front left footrest side cover. See the Footrests topic for more information.
Remove the inner cover rear. See the Inner Covers topic for more information.
Remove the front and rear exhaust pipe nuts with a 12 mm socket.
Loosen the muffler clamp bolt with a 12 mm socket.
Support the muffler. Remove the two muffler mounting bolts with a 10 mm socket.
Remove the front exhaust pipe.
Remove the muffler and rear exhaust pipe assembly.
Remove the exhaust pipe gaskets.
Installation
If the exhaust pipe cover or muffler cover were removed tighten their respective bolts to specification during installation.

Install new exhaust gaskets into the exhaust pipes. A small dab of grease will help hold it in place, just be aware that it will smoke and burn off when the engine is started.
Install a new muffler clamp gasket.
Install the muffler and rear exhaust pipe assembly. Be sure the clamp is in place.
Install the two muffler mounting bolts temporarily with a 10 mm socket. Do not tighten.
Install the front exhaust pipe into the muffler and front cylinder exhaust port.
Install the front and rear exhaust pipe nuts. Check that the exhaust system fits properly. Tighten the front and rear exhaust pipe nuts evenly with a 12 mm socket.
Remove the muffler mounting bolts and apply a non-permanent thread locking agent to their threads. Re-install the bolts and tighten them to specification.

Tighten the muffler clamp bolt to specification with a 12 mm socket.
