Carburetor Removal

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Note: Gasoline is extremely flammable. When working with the fuel system make sure your work area is free of any sources of spark or open flame. Only work on the fuel system components with the ignition switch in the OFF position, the engine is cold, and the negative battery lead has been disconnected from the battery terminal.

Drain the coolant. See the Coolant topic for more information.

Remove the airbox. See the Airbox topic for more information.

Remove the left side cover. See the Side Covers topic for more information.

Remove the three heat guard plate bolts with an 8 mm socket.

Remove the heat guard plate.

Unhook the engine idle speed adjuster from its bracket.

Free the fuel hose from the carburetors. Drain any remaining fuel in the hose into a suitable container.

Free the coolant hoses from the carburetors.

Loosen the carburetor clamps with a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

Remove the throttle cable cover screw with a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

Remove the throttle cable cover from the carburetor.

Loosen the throttle cable locknut with a 10 mm wrench. Free the throttle cable from the cable guide..

Disconnect the throttle cable from the throttle drum.

There are two plates that secure the choke plungers to the carburetors.

Remove the choke plunger plate screws with a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

Remove the choke plungers from the carburetors.

Remove the carburetors.
