Carburetor Separation

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Remove the carburetors. See the Carburetor Removal topic for more information.

Note the location of the throttle linkage springs before separation.

Hold the bolts with an 8 mm wrench then loosen the nuts with an 8 mm socket.

Separate the two carburetors noting the position of the pipes and springs.

Remove the fuel, vent and coolant pipes. Clean the area of the carburetor where the pipes were removed from.

Either replace the pipes with new ones or make sure they are clean and  free of damage.

Apply a light coat of grease to new o-rings and fit them into place noting the coolant pipe uses four o-rings.

Install the pipes into the carburetors. The vent pipe has a notch that fits into a slot in the carburetors.

Fit the carburetors together with the springs installed on the throttle linkage.

Install the bolts and thread on the nuts. Place the carburetors on a flat level surface so they are aligned properly as the bolts are tightened.

Tighten the bolts securely. Check that the butterfly valves open and close smoothly. Also check that the butterfly valves are sitting in the same position, if not use the synchronization screw to even them out.

Install the carburetors. See the Carburetor Installation topic for more information.

Synchronize the carburetors. See the Carburetor Synchronization topic for more information.
