Differential Control

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Pull the differential control lever towards the grip with a force of 30 N or 7 lb. Use a spring scale to make sure the force used is accurate. Make sure the differential must lock. Measure the distance between the back of the differential control lever and the handlebar grip.

Differential Control Lever Lock Position Standard
2004 and newer models 20 mm (0.8 in)
2002 – 2003 15 ~ 25 mm (0.6 – 1.0 in)

If the measurement is out of specification adjust the cable.

Remove the four handlebar cover screws and the front handlebar cover.

Loosen the differential cable adjuster locknut and turn the adjuster as needed to. Hold the adjuster when the standard is reached and tighten the locknut securely.

Install the front handlebar cover and the four handlebar cover screws. Tighten the screws securely.
