A-arms

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Removal

Remove the front wheels and hubs. See the Wheels and Hubs topic for more information.

Remove the front bumper on the 2006 and newer models. See the Bumpers and Carriers topic for more information.

Remove the steering knuckle. See the Steering Knuckles topic for more information.

Remove shock absorber. See the Front Shock Absorbers topic for more information.

Remove the three suspension arm guard fasteners (one is in the rear) and washers with an 8 mm socket.

Remove the guards from the suspension arms.

Remove the suspension arm pivot bolts with a 17 mm socket.

Remove the suspension arm. Inspect the suspension arm for damage.

Bearings

Remove the grease seals and collar from the front pivot of the suspension arm. Replace the seals and collar as needed.

Inspect the needle bearing in the front pivot of the suspension arm. Turn the bearing by hand. If the bearing doesn’t turn smoothly it must be replaced.

Drive out the old bearing. Drive in the new bearing so that it sits 6.9 ± 0.1 mm (0.272 ± 0.004 in.) inside the edge of the suspension arm.

Lubricate bearing and grease seals with grease. Install the grease seals and collar into the suspension arm.

Remove the side collars and grease seals from the rear pivot of the suspension arm. Replace the seals and collars as needed.

Inspect the spherical bearing and replace it as needed.

Drive out the old bearing. Drive in the new bearing so that it sits 12.9 ± 0.1 mm (0.508 ± 0.004 in.) inside the edge of the suspension arm.

Lubricate the grease seals with grease. Install the grease seals and collars into the suspension arm.

Installation

Fit the suspension arm into place.

Insert the suspension arm pivot bolts. Tighten the suspension arm pivot bolts to specification with a 17 mm socket.

Suspension Arm Pivot Bolts: 88 N-m, 9.0 kgf-m, 65 ft-lb

Fit the suspension arm guards into place. Install the three suspension arm guard fasteners and washers then tighten them securely with an 8 mm socket.
