Airbox

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Airbox Removal

Remove the air filter and cover. See the Air Filter Servicing topic for more information.

Remove the four air filter element bracket screws with a #3 Phillips screwdriver.

Lift out the air filter element bracket.

Remove the four airbox inner mounting bolts with an 8 mm socket.

Remove the two outer airbox mounting bolts with a 10 mm socket.

Free the airbox intake from the rubber cover or loosen the clamp and disconnect the intake pipe from the airbox.

Squeeze and slide back the clamp. Free the breather hose from the airbox.

Free the drain hose and vent tube from the clamp and guide on the right side of the engine.

Remove the airbox from the frame.

Cover the mouths of the carburetors to prevent the entry of debris.

Airbox Installation

Fit the airbox into place on the carburetors. Make sure the air vent tube on the carburetors fits into place on the airbox.

Connect the airbox to the intake pipe if they were removed separately. Tighten the intake pipe clamp securely.

Install the rubber cover over the intake pipe.

Fit the drain hose and vent tube into the clamp and guide on the right side of the engine.

Apply a non-permanent thread locking agent (Blue Loctite) to the threads of the inner airbox mounting bolts. Tighten the inner airbox bolts to specification with an 8 mm socket.

Airbox bolts (M5):  5.9 N-m, 0.6 kgf-m, 52 in-lb

Install the two outer airbox mounting bolts. The front bolt is the shorter of the two. Tighten the bolts to specification with a 10 mm socket.

Airbox bolts (M6): 8.8 N-m, 0.9 kgf-m, 78 in-lb

Fit the breather hose to the airbox. Squeeze the clamp and slide it into place to secure the breather hose.

Install the air filter element bracket. Install the four air filter element bracket screws and tighten them to specification with a #3 Phillips screwdriver.

Air cleaner element bracket screws [2003 – 2011, 700cc]: 4.9 N-m,  0.5 kgf-m, 43 in-lb
