The spark arrestor should be cleaned every year of use.
Note: Always allow the exhaust system plenty of time to cool before touching it.
Remove the spark arrestor drain bolt from the muffler.
Place the vehicle in an open area far from any combustible materials. Place the engine in neutral and start the engine. Tap the muffler with a rubber mallet while raising and lowering the engine speed until the carbon debris drains from the muffler. Stop the engine when debris has stopped coming out.
Install the drain bolt into muffler and tighten it securely.
