Fuel Valve 2005 Model

SAFETY FIRST: Protective gloves and eyewear are recommended at this point.

Note: The 2006 and newer 650 modelsĀ have a different fuel valve.

Fuel Valve Removal

Note: On 2006 and newer 650 models remove the following:

  1. Remove the fuel pump and fuel pump bracket.
  2. Remove the fuel tank.

Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable. Make sure to work in an area that is free of open flames and sources of sparks.

Remove the two fuel valve mounting bolts. Support the fuel valve.

Remove the two fuel hoses from the fuel valve. Note which hose goes to the carburetor (top) and which hose goes to the fuel tank (bottom).

Fuel Valve Inspection and Disassembly

Inspect the fuel valve for damage and signs of leaks.

Remove the two screws from the fuel valve with a #2 screwdriver.

Remove the plate from the fuel valve.

Remove the ring.

Remove the lever.

Remove the O-ring.

Remove the gasket.

Fuel Valve Assembly

Install a new gasket and O-ring.

Apply some grease to the inner contact surface of the lever.

Install the lever and ring.

Install the plate onto the fuel valve. Install the two fuel valve plate screws and tighten them to specification with a #2 screwdriver.

Fuel Valve Plate Screws: 0.8 N-m (0.08 kgf-m, 7 in-lb)

Fuel Valve Installation

Install the fuel lines and clamps.

Mount the fuel valve and install the two fuel valve mounting bolts and tighten them securely.
